Turtle Hat
This hat will look adorable with a blue and green striped scarf with a turtle
motif at one end. ;) ;)
I designed this hat to match a scarf I made for a friend.
Materials:
caron simply soft in navy and dark sage (or any worsted weight yarn)
size US 6 needles(4.25 mm)
size US 5 (3.75mm) for ribbing
Size:
Women's medium (for mens, use larger needles)
Hat:
Use smaller needles
Cast on 96 stitches.
Knit 14 rows (or about 1.5 inches) in double rib (K2, P2)
(knit in stockinette stitch for the rest of the hat.)
Switch to larger needles.
Knit row 1 blue.
Knit row 2 green.
Knit row 3 blue.
Follow turtle chart for next 9 rows. You should make 4 turtles.
Knit contrasting rows as before, blue, green, blue.
Continue knitting in green until the hat reaches 6 inches total (about 5
more rows).
Decreasing:
row 1: k2tog, knit 20, sks (slip st, knit, pull slipped st back over knitted stitch)
row 2: knit
row 3: k2tog, knit 18, sks
Continue to knit all even rows
Continue odd rows: k2tog, knit ##, sks (where ## is two less then the
last odd row: 16, 14, 12, 10, ...)
When 16 stitches remain, break yarn and pull end through remaining stitches
with yarn needle.
